The name "Hanford" links two distinct eras: the original pre-war town of Hanford and the modern Richland high school. The original 1916 Hanford High School building was the educational hub of the former agricultural town, which was abruptly evacuated and converted into Manhattan Project offices in 1943. The current
Hanford High School in Richland was established later, in 1972.
