O' Henrys

In 1927 Adelard T (A.T.) and Emma E. Belair and their two children, Henry ( 5) and Lorene (9) came to Kennewick from Prosser, WA. They purchased the Haas Bakeru (later renamed Belair's Bakery and then the Kennewick  Baking Co.). The bakery grew from a small wholesale and retail outlet to a large distributor of bakery products, with a daily output of 5,000 loaves a day during the war years of 1941 - 45.

In 1946, Henry Belair, after service in the Navy, Henry returned to the bakery, bringing his wife, Jeanne, and infant son, Roger. Two other sons were born -- Randal in 1949 and Ronald in 1955. All three now live in Seattle.

After A.T.'s death in 1955, business management fell to Henry, eventually convertinng to strictly retail sales. On Emma's death in 1963, Henry and Jeanne assumed full ownership. The bakery image gave way to one of a restaurant, including its name change to O' Henry's. Specialties ranging from O' Henry's big, juicy burgers, deli sandwiches, homemade soups and pies (reminder of the bakery days) to Aunt Edna's chili are served in a quaint American decor. Memories of the good ole days remain prevalent amidst exhibits which range from WWII clippings and mementoes to various class pictures of former Kennewick High School graduates, as well as those of many old and current celebrities.

In 1983, Henry added our garden court -- outdoor dining in a garden atmosphere. Then in 1984 we really became famous with our over 60 go-go girls.. A fun idea that caught national and international attention -- from The CBS Morning News to the prestigious Wall Street Journal, from Paul Harvey to the World Wide Stars and Stripes -- Henry' Belair's go-go girls were a hot news item!
