• It starts as an old, unsold painting.
   

• It's cut to the size I want.

• I look at it for a long time, until I see the beginning of a new image in the old painting

• Then I paint around that image until I get something totally different.
   

  • It's not the same subject matter.

  • It's not the same shapes.

  • It's not the same colors.

 

• And the subject matter?

  • I have no idea what will come out of that first painting.

  • None whatsoever.

It's a completely new piece.
