Image files for websites: Q: What resolution will be the best for web images? Computer screens can read only 72 dpi (dots per inch). Image requirements:
TIFF is a format which does not condense the image data. JPEG condenses image data with every save. A JPEG's size is about 5% to 10% of the original file size -- and it reduces again with every save. JPG is known as a "lossy" format, that is, it loses data. Process for taking digital pictures for website: Goals when photographing art: 1) Use natural lighting. Fluorescent lights can give the image a green tint, and using a flash leaves a "halo," a lighter area, in the center of the artwork. NO FLASH! 2) Place artwork in indirect natural light. Example: outside on a cloudy day or in light shade. 3) Art with glass causes reflection problems. Take the picture with the glass removed if possible. If not possible, stand slightly to the side and take the picture, keeping the image as straight as possible. 4) Include only the image itself: no frame, no mat, no background. 5) Camera settings:
