About website design and pricing
We specialize in sites for artists and musicians!

Here are the parts of setting up a website and their approximate costs:

  • Domain name registration

We reserve your website address on the internet ("janesmith.com", for example). Usual cost: about $10/year. Not included in hosting or design fees.

  • Website hosting
    Website Hosting Rate:     $35/month*
    Our clients pay 4 months to a year at a time.

For a monthly charge, we manage space for you on the server (the big computer that stores your website and sends it up to the internet). This service also covers normal site maintenance -- fixing any problems with keeping the site up on the internet. Making backup files ensures that, if anything should happen on the server to break your site, I can replace it with the backup.

We require that we host any sites we design. In the past, when we allowed someone else to host a site, we spent hours problem-solving. We can't expect our clients to pay for that.

Website hosting includes email accounts for you as well.

Text design decisions: we
  • Write and/or edit any text for clarity and to fit the page.
 
  • pages 2), 3) and 4): pages of your choice (about the artist, classes, calendar, contact information, etc.)
  • Assume responsibility for grammar and spelling as well.

Technical design decisions: we

 
  • page 5) For artists, gallery page with images (maximum of 12)
  • navigation bar (button bar to move to different pages) and
  • Write the code (in the format required by the internet) that becomes your website pages.
  
  • Plan how visitors will travel from page to page on your site without confusion or frustration -- how to make your site user-friendly.
  • webpage changes/adjustments for 3 months (from completion date)
  • Make sure that your site is consistent in a variety of browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Safari, Firefox, etc.) . . .
  
  • . . . and with various computer operating systems (PC, Linux, Macintosh).

 


This price is based on digital images prepared to our image specifications.

* These are basic prices for standard projects. If your project involves beyond-normal amounts of our time, additional charges may be incurred. We can give you a bid for work beyond a standard site design.



Additional services
Additional Image preparation:
Image preparation rate: $30/hour*
  • adapting images that don't fit our specifications for use on the site (usually half an hour per image) and
  • making/composing new images for any site pages (beyond the basic 5 page site). Examples: design a logo, page background, illustration, etc.

    • Website updates and additions
    Web design/adaptation rate : $30/hour*

      1. After the initial 3 month period, website changes and updates will be done gladly.
      2. Further web design: additional pages and sections can be added to the site.
      3. It is possible to start with a small (5 page site as above) and add pages as time, needs, and finances permit. Sometimes clients choose to put in a deposit for ongoing work. Another option: paying a monthly fee for continued design work on the site. We work with our clients to meet their needs.
